Why Ascott The Residences Makati is sooo worth it?

I was 16 when I first moved to Makati and live on my own. Yes, for college. :) My first work was also in Makati hence I can say I lived in the city for 8 solid years. When I started working, Glorietta would be a great place to meet up with friends and have coffee or just try out the different restaurants in the area. Glorietta is a mall compound in the heart of the city better known as Ayala. Aside from malls, there are several hotels to have your weekend staycation. What could be the better location in the city than the one where you can chill and shop at the same time? Haha

Anyway moving to the present, on December 19th, I finally travelled back home to spend the holidays with the family. And what has become a family tradition is to spend the 2nd and 3rd night of my arrival in a hotel in Makati even when we have an apartment nearby. Somehow it’s also like a family treat. After that, we will travel back to my hometown which I will write about soon.

This time, I decided to stay at Ascott the Residences. The hotel is located right in Glorietta 4. It’s not my first time staying in this hotel and it still never gets old. I particularly love its spacious designer rooms and apartments which is perfect for any kind of travellers. I booked the 1 bedroom suite direct from their website where the room rates range from 8,000PHP-20,000PHP per night. The tip is to compare prices with other hotel booking sites. You’ll surely find a cheaper rate like I did.

We booked a Grab car on the way to the hotel because trust me, you wouldn’t want to drive around Makati when it’s the Christmas season, so I can’t talk about whether they have valet parking or if there are enough parking spaces or if parking is free(I supposed it is). The hotel has a small entrance at the ground floor where you have to take a lift up to the 6th floor which is the actual hotel lobby which hosts the reception area. In the same floor is the hotel’s pool, gym, and the in-house restaurant Myron. This is the same restaurant that caters breakfast for guests.

So here are the things I like about Ascott Makati:

Before all other things I like about the hotel, I especially love that they are trying to be as eco-friendly as possible. They provide a water dispenser in the suite and drinking glasses – way way better than the plastic bottles in most hotels.

  • LOCATION. If you are in Makati for business or shopping, Ascott is within the Makati CBD and across EDSA, you can be at Bonifacio Global City. The hotel is nestled among malls so shopping and food are literally just downstairs.
  • BREEZY CHECK-IN and CHECK-OUT and very friendly staff.
  • NICE, COMFY, AND HOMEY ROOM ACCENTS. Cool hues of grey, gold, and teal are just so relaxing.
  • Big bed and plush pillows. Safe to say I was able to get my much needed sleep after a long flight. I woke up at 9am with my brother annoyed that it’s too late for breakfast already and at the same time he’s also scared to wake me up. Because you know, I am not a morning person when on vacation.
  • The wardrobe is spacious and has the complete set of essentials from bath robe to slippers to steam iron and hair dryer.
  • The bathroom and toiletries. <3
  • Pool and the tennis court!
  • Also…you wouldn’t need a universal adaptors for your mobile and computer chargers. :)

While I’m satisfied with my stay at Ascott, I think they can improve on the following:

  • Myron’s breakfast buffet spread – I would rate it 7/10. I have been away from home for a few months and you could tell I was craving more Filipino food fanfare. So I’m not really impressed that there are only a handful of choices for breakfast. But I guess I was just unlucky with the selections on the days I stayed at the hotel. My Filipino tummy was like: “Where’s the tuyo, itlog na maalat, longganisa at tapa? I wanted daing na bangus, too. Don’t they have taho?”
  • The bathroom design is a bit outdated compared to the other areas of the apartment.
  • Perhaps add more benches for waiting guests at the ground floor entrance? :)  We had to wait for sometime for the car and there’s no place to sit down – this is not good especially if you’re with older members of the family.

Overall, I would rate my stay an 8 out of 10 and I would definitely come back.
