The Mini Suites Eton Hotel: Just the Basics for a Good Night Sleep

What better way to chill on a holiday break sans the extravagance of your wallet going all out? Spot and book for a budget-friendly staycation in the City.

This is exactly what I did in 1.)  spending a quiet pre-birthday eve and, 2.) shutting the world out for Holy Week. So, presenting to you *drum roll*: The Mini Suites at Eton Tower.

Location / Accessibility

The Mini Suites at Eton Tower is a hotel that is smacked in the middle of Makati’s Central Business District. Situated along VA Rufino Street cor. Dela Rosa Street, it gives easy access to varied restaurants and even Greenbelt, Glorietta and SM Makati. Easy access in the sense that the building itself has access to Dela Rosa’s elevated pedestrian walkway that makes the trip hassle-free.

At the same time, the building houses a salon, PNB ATMs, Anytime Fitness and the following restaurants: Dean and Deluca, The Pigpen, Motorino. Local faves are also a stone throw away from the building: The Picnic (cozy food court), Jollibee, Chowking, Starbucks, 7-11.

The lobby can get this crowded on a holiday break  which is expected because hello, staycation!

How the lobby looks without the crowd.

The hotel houses restaurants, one of which is Motorino NY Slice.

The Mini Suites’ mascot. So cute!

How to locate the hotel? You can take a ride to Ayala Avenue and alight near PBCom Tower. Head to Dela Rosa Street via VA Rufino and voila, the hotel is exactly in the corner of the streets that I mentioned. The hotel is also searchable via Google Maps and Waze, so even Kuya Grab Driver can easily spot it.

Room Rates / Where to Book?

On my first visit, I availed of the hotel’s discounted rate by booking via their official website. Rate for the Mini Double Room was Php2,500 per night.

I got a better deal on my second stay after scoring Php3,800 via Booking.com (this one’s good for 2 nights mind you and is inclusive of all the usual taxes).

Basically you can book for a reservation via Trivago, Agoda and even AirBNB but having used Trivago, I am always led back to Booking.com which offers the best deal.

The Room

You have the option to choose from the following rooms:

Mini Single Room (14sqm), Mini Double Room (18sqm), Smart Luxe Room (25sqm), Deluxe Double Room (30sqm).

We have been staying at the Mini Double Room simply because it fits the budget and the Smart Luxe and Deluxe Double Room gets to be sold out fast.

The room is quite minimalist. Room view is either that of the hotel’s pool area sheltered by the other neighboring buildings or Dela Rosa Street’s city view.

They offer the basics: towels, shower gel inside the shower area (functions as a shower gel, shampoo and conditioner), hotel slippers, television (they have Sky Cable but they just have the basic channel access – so no HBO, Fox Movies, Cinema One, etc.,), free wifi access.

One reason why I went back and stayed for the 2nd time is their bed and cold ac unit. Feels comfortable for someone who is totally insomniac – I get to fall asleep easily.

Another reason why I love the room is that they have a lot of electrical outlets (9) and USB ports (2) that are near the bed.

Room is well-lit too and you can choose which areas to light up. I’m saying this because I’ve stayed in other hotels where you have no choice but to either turn the lights on (too bright) or off (too dark) and one whole area gets affected (if you know what I mean). I even stayed in one 4-star hotel where the room looks really dark because they have available lights in the kitchen/desk area but nowhere near the bed.

Hotel Facilities

There is simply more to see at the 5th Floor where guests can do different activities like take a dip in their outdoor swimming pool, lounge at the reclined chairs, do a quick workout at the gym or even hold conferences inside the hotel’s boardroom.

My view while afloat on their swimming pool.

Pros / Cons

Pros – Price, room is minimalist and comfortable, accessibility to basically whatever you need, average to above average customer service. Go for a staycation if all you need are the basics. They call the hotel “The Mini Suites” for a reason and it’s because you get a cozy room with the very basics: a comfy bed, an airconditioner unit that doesn’t conk out, good city/pool view, free wifi access in your room.

Cons – Soundproofing (you can hear a few chatter from time to time), service consistency (I thought that their welcome drinks are a staple but they’re not). Consider to go or otherwise if you’re looking for “the basics and then some”. No cabinets / tables by the way (for the Mini Double Room — not sure if this is the same for the other bigger rooms) so staying might not be a good idea if you typically use your hotel room’s table and chair especially for dining/work purposes.

Will I go back? I’d say, YES because a good night’s sleep is gold.
