The Girl: out at sea

We spent a night staying at No Man’s Fort, part of Solent Forts hotel group. What a unique experience!

We got the boat from Gunwharf Keys at midday, dropped some guests off at the smaller, quieter Spitbank Fort and then headed to No Man’s Fort. Amazing views of the Portsmouth coastline one way and the Isle of Wight the other.

We were treated to a tour of the fort, giving us the history and some stories about life on the fort before it was a boutique hotel.

We then had lunch at the Lord Nelson pub, a great sharing platter and refreshing G&T. After checking into the room (we had an upgrade after a hiccup with our booking) we were free to relax and enjoy being stranded in the middle of the sea.

The views were amazing and luckily we had a super sunny day so could enjoy chilling on the roof deck (more comfy seating needed though) and a chill out in one of the hot tubs. We also managed afternoon tea and cake!

Before dinner we watched the start of a glorious sunset and then had a three course meal. Was slightly surprised to be sharing a table with eight other guests but was fun.

After dinner we enjoyed a rum soaked hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows around the fire pit before fun in the games room.

The next morning breakfast was a buffet style affair but just what was needed before our boat ride back to the main land.

Was definitely a fun way to spend an evening, not sure I would need to go again as think the novelty would wear off but recommend it for something a bit out of the ordinary. Get booking now as I hear the forts are up for sale!
