Mukteshwar is a town and tourist destination in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand, India. It is a pleasing destination that sits high in the Kumaon Hills at an elevation of 2,285 meters above sea level. This town has got its name from a 350 year old Mukteshwar Dham temple, whose residing deity is Lord Shiva. It is said that Lord Shiva killed a demon at this spot and he granted him salvation or mukti.
