Moving up with the World

We all have a dream! Whether it be a dream job, a dream family, or a dream place to live, we all have one that we are so close to achieving but it is just out of reach. This is where making a leap of faith really comes in. Sometimes, we have to close our eyes and grasp at nothing to achieve everything! This month I have done just that and have never felt better. I asked to have a meeting with a couple of executives that work at the same hotel I am currently working at because I was thinking of moving on from my hosting job. It was in a way a mock interview where I could learn a little bit more about the company and about the job opportunities that are open to me. Honestly, I was shaking with so much excitement and nervousness that I could barely hold the pen to take notes.

“Take a deep breath,” I told myself, “You got this! You know the company, you know who you are meeting with and you know what you want from this!” As I speed to the meeting location because I didn’t want to get out of bed. I brought my college rule, red notebook, purple pen and thought up some questions to ask on the way there. I quickly wrote some down that I thought would fit the occasion and walked inside.

So, I sat down today, August 30th, 2018, with the property’s Destination Sales Executive to learn about what she does and how I can get there. It was essentially set up like a mock interview so I came baring questions and my active listening ears so I could learn as much as I possibly could. To see if it was really something I wanted to look into doing as a career or if I had a fantasy of a job in my head. However, I came out of this meeting more excited than I was going in. It is not exactly what I went to school for but it shares qualities and opens further doors for me to go through. I also love learning something new and doing something that will challenge me.

Taking that leap of faith can be scary, very scary, but in the wise words of Mr. Kate: “Why not?” Life can be crazy and lead you on some strange adventures, take you down a couple pegs but open new doors for you that you didn’t even know existed! You don’t know where they will take you or where they could lead but sometimes it is to something bigger and better! Taking that leap, having the faith that it will lead to where you want to be and believing in the universe about those opportunities can do so much for you. It was scary not even going to lie. What I got from asking was so much more! It was like taking a drink from a glass of cold water or a breath of fresh air. I was more than a little nervous when I asked for a meeting about moving up within the company because you never know how people will react especially when you haven’t been with the company for very long. I have only been here for a little over 6 months but the joys of being a host at this restaurant is that I do get to interact with more of the executives because of private parties and client meetings that are being held. So, in turn a hosting job has opened a couple of career doors for me because I get to have these kinds of interactions.

The reason I am writing this blog and telling you about what happened when I took my leap of faith is mostly because I was so excited and also to show that it can happen to anyone. I am working less than full time currently and my paycheck leaves much to be desired but I want to work to make things happen! Everyone has the drive for it but not everyone has the stomach for it. You will be rejected and have to work endlessly to even get someone to notice you. Other times it will fall into your lap but you have to want it! you have to be willing to put the time and the effort towards it so that you can succeed! We all know you can; its about the universe believing that you can because you believe in it. Make the change! Whatever it is to you make that change so that you can live your life the way you want to!

The world is yours for the taking so get out there and take it! My dad has recently done this by quitting his phone sales job and moving forward to become a teacher. He is currently an aid for kids with behavioral problems in high school and he honestly thinks this was the best decision he has made in a while. Even though financially things may be tougher, he feels happier with where he is which is all you should want in life!

The saddest summary of a life contains three descriptions: could have, might have, and should have. ~ Louis E. Boone
