Hotel Review: Hotel de Jobo, Paris

Location: This has got to be one of the quirkiest, most memorable hotel stays I have ever had. Located in the heart of what has now become my favourite part of Paris, Le Marais, it’s within walking distance of the Rue de Rivoli, Galeries Lafayette, The Louvre and a host of many other Parisian tourist hot spots. However, because it’s located on a small side-street, it still somehow manages to conjure a feeling of a hideaways that is far from the madding crowds.

Rooms: I’m going to be no-filter honest here. Stepping into the lobby of the Hotel de Jobo is vaguely reminiscent of the reaction I had when I first saw a Jamiroquai music video as a teen:  equal parts intrigued and baffled. This feeling snowballs as you walk along the small corridors and then actually crescendos when you step into one the hotel’s 24 rooms, which are as whimsical as they are defiantly loud. This is definitely is not your run-of-the-mill four-star Parisian hotel.

Other facilities: It seems like the rooms is where the hotel management gave most of their attention because this 4-star hotel is slighly thin on the ground when it comes to facilities. A spacious bar and breakfast room, (but no restaurant), babysitting services, Ipad loan, and wifi make up the lion’s share of the hotel’s facilities. It is also accessible to persons with reduced mobility.

Standout feature: Definitely its mosaic of rooms. Seldom have I seen rooms so unapologetic in their explicit attention-grabbing. This is the kind of place where you definitely need to do some research prior to arriving, and request a room that is to your taste because they vary wildly from one to the next; what’s avant garde to one might very well be tres kitsch to another.

The low-down: Located near the St-Paul metro station which traverses Paris from east to west, and is about 100 metres by foot from the hotel. Prices as of summer 2018 start at 174.
