Guest arrivals increase in 2016

There is a growth rate of 7 percent of guest arrivals in United Arab Emirates hotels in 2016 compared to the previous year, according to Federal Competitiveness & Statistics Authority. 

Hotel establishments has reported 22 million guests arriving in 2016, while in 2015 the sum of guests arriving was 21 million. 

Arrivals in the UAE

Although the average of length of stay has decreased by -1 percent, the number of guest nights has increased by 6 percent compared to 2015. 

In 2015, the average of length of stay was 3.26, and it has decreased in 2016 to 3.23. While the number of guest nights has increased from 69 million nights in 2015 to 73 million in 2016. 

Hotel establishments in 2016 could be divided into two different kinds, one is hotels and the other is hotel apartments. Though hotels are higher in number, the occupation rate is lower than hotel apartments.

Number of hotels is 702 including hotels from 5 stars to 1 star hotels, and the occupation rate of all hotels is 74 percent. While the number of hotel apartments is 358 with an occupation rate of 79 percent. 

Guests were mainly focused on 5 stars hotels with 74 percent occupation rate, and the same could apply for the hotel apartments as the Deluxe hotel apartments recorded the highest occupation rate of 79 percent. 

Arrivals

By dividing the guests into regions it is clear that Asian countries along with European countries have the most guests in both hotels and hotel apartments. Though guests arriving from the country itself recorded a higher number than most of the other countries. 

Asian counties have a total of 5 million guests mostly residing in hotels, this applies for European countries too. However the number of hotel apartments guests vary in these two regions as Asian countries is higher in that aspect than European countries. Meanwhile UAE hotel guests recoded a total of 3 million guests.
