A Super Sunday Brunch and Christmas Cake Mixing At Cilantro, Trident

Step into Trident, Gurgaon and a soft breeze of tranquility pervades you. The architectural symmetry impresses and speaks volumes of the Thai architect, Lek Mathar Bunnag’s skilful incorporation of Mughal, Rajasthani and Moroccan influences in his designing. The looming beige dome, vast green expanses, shimmering reflection pool, huge torchlights on pillars and airy courtyards enhance its elegance.

As the smog settles down and the chill sets in, Cilantro, the spacious all day dining restaurant welcomes an all new season of Sunday Brunches. They have it all – from fresh organic salads, hand tossed Italian pizzas to live stations featuring the best of Japanese, European, Purani Dilli cuisines as well as an impressive lineup of desserts.

To relish another exciting Gourmet Passport experience, the guests were invited to enjoy the lavish spread at Cilantro followed by a Christmas cake mixing activity. Of course, an exciting event like this went HOUSE FULL in no time and we weren’t surprised.

I have always loved Cilantro for its peaceful, monastery kind feel. It is a calm, spaced out place with light filtering through the large doors. The food served is live, fresh and organic. I like that the menu is not crazy, mind- boggling huge. However, Executive Chef, Sandeep Kalra has ensured that it is brimming with enough options to satiate the palate of every guest. There’s the chef’s selection of signature kebabs – Anari Ananaas, Lamb seekh kebabs, Murgh malai; Traditional Japanese Yakitori in all its variety and complexity, live chicken shawarma and juicy European grills.

The “desi chatpata” lovers can get their fill of seekh kebab, idli chaat , samosa chaat, papdi chaat, fruit chaat from the chaat corner. I, for one, flitted from one guest to another, stopping in between for a quick mouthful of crunchy golgappas filled with the yummiest imli ka paani.

That’s not all. There’s enough listed in the main course that covers Western, Asian and indian cuisines. Enjoy Trident signature wood fired thin crust pizza, Raviolli, Pastas, Paneer Begum Pasand , Butter chicken, Saag meat and more. Are you thinking coastal? There’s the Goan fish curry, Thyme and garlic Marinated Catch of the day, mixed seafood and fennel with snow peas, prawn in Thai Dressing, shrimp cocktails, smoked salmon and spinach.

Don’t be ashamed if you want to pick up a dinner plate for dessert. There’s a generous spread for people with sweet tooth. Go on! Fill it up with tarts, Gateaux, Tiramisu, entremets, mithai , kheer , bonbon and everything sugary you can think of.

“There’s a child in each one of us” – We have heard that plenty of times and the courtyard of Cilantro was witness to it at the Christmas cake mixing ceremony. Every guest partook in the activity and glove donned hands happily mixed the nuts and fruits with old spices, rum, whiskey, wines, nutmeg, brown sugar and cinnamon. This experience sure was a joyous start to Christmas season. These macerated fruits will finally be used a month and a half later, for baking and served for the Christmas buffet on the 24th and 25th December at Cilantro. Make sure you mark your calendar for both the days. We now excitedly await Christmas day!
