A Peaceful Hamlet in the midst of chaos

Accommodation options play a very important role when we plan any trip, especially in a road trip. There are times we want accommodation just for a night halt and then there are times when it is required for a longer duration.

This time while on a trip to Rajasthan both these factors came up. We had to stay in Jaipur twice, one option we picked up at the start of our trip was an earlier tried property in Jaipur – the reason being simple didn’t want to waste time searching for location etc. For the end of our trip we decided to try some other property, search, search, search and we finally zeroed down on a property; our selection criteria – location, safe space for parking our vehicles, pricing (of course this involves doing comparisons with rates of the property available on various online sites and rates from the hotel directly) and yes provision for extra bed for my son (not just bedding –a mattress, a sheet, a pillow and a blanket etc. which is put on the floor).

The hotel/property we zeroed in was Jai Niwas. The hotel is located on Gopinath Marg walking distance from M.I. Road. It’s close to Jalupura Police Station and many MP/MLA houses of Rajasthan State are located in the neighbourhood. We reached Jaipur at around 2.30 pm and took us some time and a phone call to find this hotel (Please don’t ask for directions from locals as they most of the time are unable to give you correct directions or would try and coax you into picking up some other hotel). The hotel is located in wide gated lane – it’s the corner most property.

It has a decent parking space and there was a security personnel there round the clock.

We were slightly disappointed as there was construction work going on – had already paid in the full amount in advance so started doubting our decision. At the reception/front office, the personnel immediately allocated our room and provided us with a road map which showed the Jai Niwas and its distance and location vis a vis places in Jaipur (pretty helpful). He also gave us the WiFi details. We walked to our room – thankfully they had ensured that even with full swing construction there was minimal dirt and chaos.

The layout of Jai Niwas reminded us of those circuit houses and daak bungalows from the past. Lot of open space with ample greenery. Our room was facing a small garden area which had options for outdoor seating.

The room was big with a King Size Bed. They had converted the loft in the bay window as a seating area. There was Single Seater Sofa cum bed, a big cupboard with an electronic safe. The bathroom/washroom was also big and was clean with basic toiletries. Other than these the room had regular features like – big screen Television, Tea/Coffee Maker, Refrigerator/Mini Bar, study table etc.

One look at the room and our doubts regarding our option were rested.

Jai Niwas has a small dining hall – meals are served here. Our package was inclusive of breakfast. The buffet breakfast which is provided has decent options from Indian to continental. Taste wise the food was good. We didn’t have our dinners or other meals so would not be able to tell about those. The jams, preserves, pickles are all homemade and you can buy the same too.

As mentioned the hotel is walking distance from MI road (though on the road towards MI road you will pass through many auto accessories shops and one or two eating joints). We did walk around a lot during our 2 night stay.

What we liked – even with construction work, they tried to minimise the inconvenience, location, room, food, safe parking space.

Jai Niwas would definitely be on our list when we choose accommodation next time in Jaipur.
